CANNELÉ / QMQS
Italy’s tastiest jazz-funk band is back to what they do best, sharing dreamy summer vibes with this new 2-tracker.
Cannelé is a smooth, sun-drenched tribute to this sweet product of the Bordeaux terroir, that doublebass player and former Saint-Émilion employee Fabio Bordignon knows so well. Beautiful string arrangements come to sublimate the track with a highly cinematic feel.
On the other side is the final studio version of QMQS (Quando mai, quando sempre), which is an old italian expression to qualify people that only appear rarely, and always at the same specific occasions. This uplifting disco tune first appeared in its demo and live versions on previous releases Gusto di Luce and Live at Bolle Nardini, and has finally been re-recorded in a clean and groovy dress to be pressed on this 7inch record.
KENYA FLOWER
The French-Ghanaian hip-hop supergroup is back with a smooth single titled Kenya Flower. This time, Cotchei and Kwame Mulzz share the mic over a chill instrumental, that will come out this May along with a music video by Aurélia Budin
MUSIC FOR SMART AND STUPID PEOPLE VOL. 2
Music for clubbers and sleepers. Music for IAs and mountain shepherds. Music for dancing and standing still. Music for your glitchy videogame’s snow level. Music for scared hoes. Music for you and me. Music for smart and stupid people 2.
LIVE AT BOLLE NARDINI
Italian doublebass player and distiller Fabio Bordignon present a live EP with his jazz-funk band Allez Kiki Fermentation. This live session gets an immersive and powerful sound thanks to the natural reverb inside the Bolle (bubbles) of the beautiful Nardini distillery in Bassano del Grappa, where Fabio works. These 3 live takes, including a new composition and a Makaya McCraven cover, were recorded along with a stunning live video of the band grooving inside the building’s modern architecture.
HOLIDAYS ON EARTH
4 years after their groundbreaking debut album, Ghost In The Tapes return with a new full-length that sonically expands multilingual hip-hop and rap towards spiritual jazz and uplifting electronica. Still following the same process of creation through international collaboration, they gathered 26 musicians and vocalists from all around the world, including Matt Gedrych, Danalogue, Marysia Osuchowska, Susumu Mukai, Phil FMU, The Brothers Nylon, amongst many others.
SPORES
The mysterious composer’s 7th album takes us to the most hazardous corners of the galaxy with 13 new tracks of adventurous library and beat-heavy sci-funk, but this time with an electronic twist. Instruments melt under corrosive fumes emanating from modular synths and vintage drum machines. Organs, guitars and flutes are distorted and dissonant, sweating under the toxic steam of this album, that takes us in apocalyptic landscapes interspersed with dark ambient pieces.
FOREVER XP
After exploring the jazz sphere with his project La Récré, French pop with solo works on Born Bad Records including the recent album L’Idiophone, and movie soundtracks for both Monia Chokri films “Babysitter” and “Simple Comme Sylvain”, Forever Pavot is everywhere but where we expect him to be. He now lands on the hip-hop planet with this beat-heavy west coast rap LP in collaboration with L.A. rapper and street activist XP The Marxman.
SOURIEZ EP
SURVIVAL
After Agoro’s first ever tour in France, gathering the NCY Milky Band and 5 rappers from Ghana, Belgium and France, the hip-hop supergroup doesn’t stop here. This song features Khofi Koojan, who raps in English and Twi about not giving up despite the tough times he has encountered as a hustler in the streets of Kumasi.
The young rising star from Ghana’s Afro Drill scene is backed with some French incisive verse from Nancy-based world freestyle champion Lobo EL. The instrumental was composed by bassist Achille Landois then arranged, recorded and processed as a sample by NCY Milky Band.
UN SYSTÈME GÉNIAL
It has become a rare occurrence, but all the more welcome that the funkiest band in the Grand Est region has taken the time to cook up a new single to warm our hearts as the year draws to a close. This time, they collaborate with Strasbourg-based actor, songwriter, singer and musician Vizir, whose deep voice adds the frenchie flavour we’re so fond of. The resulting track is resolutely more pop, tackling the theme of love with humor.
SIMPLE COMME SYLVAIN OST
“Monia Chokri came to me for her previous film Babysitter, she had listened a lot to my 2nd album La Pantoufle during the writing process and she wanted me to compose the music for her second film. As we got on very well, she contacted me again for her 3rd film Simple Comme Sylvain.”
This new album rides a deliberately more romantic and melancholic wave than its predecessor, combined with Pavot’s retro and vintage sound. “Monia and I share a love of Italian music and 60’s soundtracks”, explains Forever Pavot, who drew inspiration from composers such as Ennio Morricone, Piero Umiliani and Alessandro Alessandroni to create this heavenly record.
BLACK STAR
In this new track that blurs the lines between rap, rock and electronic music, Franco-Ghanaian hip-hop supergroup Agoro let the mic to Kwame Mulzz, who delivers his full singer potential. His lyrics tell the story of a black star who struggles to shine in the darkness of space. This is a poetic reference to the Lodestar of African Freedom, an important symbol of Pan-Africanism and anti-colonialist culture, that was added to the Ghanaian flag to symbolise African unity and freedom.
DURANGO
Through a deliberately minimalist, resolutely modern music, the high-end instrumentalist and composer reveals a sensibility on the edge, rooted in the heritage of great European composers such as Maurice Ravel, Gustav Mahler or Philip Glass. In constant search of new sounds, he continues this solo adventure with his second album, Durango, the name of the studio near Paris where he has been working for a few years.
OUR GURUS 2
Louis Treffel, Quentin Thomas, Antoine Léonardon and Paul Lefèvre return to where they first met, and present 9 new gurus that they reinterpret with their colorful, psychedelic sound paste. This new volume include tracks by Aphex Twin, Karriem Riggins, Giles, Giles & Fripp (ex-King Crimson), Laurent Petitgirard, Galt MacDermot, Pierre Henry and more.
GUSTO DI LUCE
Gusto di Luce is the debut album by Italian double bass player and former winemaker Fabio Bordignon aka Allez Kiki, and his backing band Fermentation. Gusto di Luce, meaning the taste of light, is also an oenological term referring to the taste that a bottle of wine takes when it is left too long in the sun.
Through 5 original pieces and 3 instrumental covers of his own previous solo singles (Bourguignon, Estinto Omicida and Hydromiel 2022), Fabio paints a simple, spontaneous portrait of his work routine in the wine cellars near Bordeaux, with bright and refreshing jazz-funk with hints of soul and disco.
1538
Under the name Matsutake, saxophonist Côme Rothé and producer Jérémy Vieille (2/3 of Zerolex Trio) collaborate with French ethnologists and the Echo System concert hall to create a book-record around the theme “Making materials sing”.
The album 1538 dresses this project with an immersive and cinematic jazz, tinged with ambient and experimental music. The organic and metallic sounds come into harmony with a rare sensibility to illustrate this study on objects and their history.
VECTEUR0 EP
This new trio that emerged from the very active jazz scene of Nancy offers a unique blend of styles. They have extended the acoustic and improvised side of jazz to modern electronica with textured synths, hip-hop rhythms and nods to vaporwave, exp folk and alt-rock with references like Sam Wilkes, Broadcast or 18 Carat Affair.
NO BULLSHIT
Agoro (“crew” in twi dialect) is a collaborative hip-hop project, gathering French rappers Lobo EL and Cotchei, Ghanaian MC’s Kwame Mulzz, Lil Fyve, Khofi Koojan, and an alternative formation of NCY Milky Band with Achille Landois (vecteur0) on the doublebass.
MIRAGE
After a convincing debut release in 2019 and a first introduction on BMM Records with a track feature on the “Groove Dingueries Vol. 1” compilation, Swiss quartet mohs. present their new album “Mirage”, an ode to creativity.
Guitarist Erwan Valazza, trumpeter Zacharie Ksyk, bassist Gaspard Colin and drummer Nathan Vandenbulcke distill jazz, hip hop and afrobeat elements in an ocean of blissful synths while keeping a wary eye on the sound texture.
From the funky instrumentation surrounding Fang The Great’s vocals on “Heartbreaker” to the nostalgic guitar loops of “Mirage”, all the way to the relaxing, almost ambient soundscapes of “Lonely Cowboy”, this album will comfort your ears like a warm blanket.
LORD$ EP
LORD$ is a Parisian band composed of 5 musicians: Zablon on guitar and vocals, Rémi Klein on keyboards and vocals, Jay Adams on bass, Bastien Bonnefont on drums and Gary Haguenauer on guitar.
Unable to accurately define their style, their music and aesthetic are inspired by the American pop, jazz, rock and hip-hop scenes (Jacob Collier, Louis Cole, Oliver Tree, Thundercat, DOMi & JD Beck…), but also by video game music like the Mario Kart soundtrack, and of course a solid dose of humor.
LOFI SAUCE
Twin brothers Nick and Mike Rufolo aka The Brothers Nylon are ultra-prolific musicians from Long Island, now based in Melbourne Beach, FL. Since 2010, they have released 30+ albums and 600+ YouTube videos of their studio sessions. They show a rare musical versatility that ranges from jazz, funk, soul, hip hop, and sometimes psych-rock and dub experiments, mostly instrumental and always recorded through their iconic Tascam 388 tape machine.
In 2016 we released a digital compilation of some of their grooviest tracks titled Golden Bagels, to facilitate diving into their gigantic discography. We now present Lofi Sauce, a sequel gathering 16 colorful instrumentals gems of jazz, funk and soul. This album might not sound lofi at first glance but it is inspired by the lofi beats movement and lofi hip-hop YouTube channels, a sound they tried to recreate with a more analog instrumentation and production. Lofi Sauce contains some of their most popular tunes like London Falling, Tea Cosy and Ay Uh!, as well as some forgotten treats that were still unreleased to this day: Bagel Boy, Wave Remote, Beach Comber… which will all be available December 16 on digital and 12” vinyl.
KRARK EP
The Versatile producer from Strasbourg shows a new facet of his sound with four new tracks of melodic and organic house, textured with soothing synths and home-crafted percussion. FLUPKE animated a music video for KRARK in his own “DIY sci-fi” style, picturing a cosmic rocket trip into his colorful universe.
100 ANS
Recorded during the tour following their debut LP Burn’IN, prolific French quartet NCY Milky Band present their second album of hybrid jazz, inviting us in a cinematic, melodic and poignant universe. These 14 tracks, including two collaborations with Detroit rapper Quelle Chris and French producer FLUPKE, reflect sonic photographs of everyday moments with a psychedelic sound that pushes jazz out of its comfort zone.
GROOVE DINGUERIES VOL. 1
Groove Dingueries Vol. 1 is one of the first compilations to spread the new sound of Jazz and Groove that emerged since the late 2010’s in France, Belgium and Switzerland, inherited from 70’s French Groove and echoing the new UK jazz scene of the 2010’s. We’re proud to contribute to this movement already carried by labels and collectives (Sdban Records, Menace, Jazztronicz…), cultural venues and festivals (Nancy Jazz Pulsations, VOLTA Brussels, Petite Halle de la Villette…) and most importantly by the bands and musicians featured on this project. Musically, this is an eclectic mix of influences, from traditional jazz to funky pop and club music, reunited on one record.
