The individual(s) behind The Natural Yogurt Band have remained unknown for a while at their debuts. The mystery was quickly unravelled and the mastermind behind this project goes by the name Miles Newbold, Nottingham-based musician and owner of the Chicken Shack studio.
His two first albums came out on Jazzman Records and Stones Throw subsidiary Now-Again Records, followed by three seven inches on the Black Milky Way.
On the third album, Braille, Slate & Stylus, the strange yet groovy melodies coming out of Miles Newbold’s mind ride along with Neil Tolliday’s drumsticks. Halfway between their studio and a distant galaxy, the funky, African-oriented beats and smooth library music of The Natural Yogurt Band are echoing, resonating and creating a highly psychedelic soundscape.
Astronomers still hope to figure out what will come next from this weird astronomical object.

The mysterious composer’s 7th album takes us to the most hazardous corners of the galaxy with 13 new tracks of adventurous library and beat-heavy sci-funk, but this time with an electronic twist. Instruments melt under corrosive fumes emanating from modular synths and vintage drum machines. Organs, guitars and flutes are distorted and dissonant, sweating under the toxic steam of this album, that takes us in apocalyptic landscapes interspersed with dark ambient pieces.
DANCE THE DEVIL AWAY
It’s been 3 years since enigmatic composer Miles Newbold aka The Natural Yogurt Band’s last LP release on BMM, Braille, Slate & Stylus. He is now back with Dance The Devil Away, containing 10 tracks of pagan jazz and spooky library music from the hills and trees of Derbyshire, carried by Tom Dempsey’s heavy drum play.
We find again that raw yet distinguished sound with screeching organs, swirling flutes and loud drum breaks that navigate inside the stereo like a ghost haunting this record.

The mysterious British act from Nottingham is back with a new 2-tracker, following up his previous 7-inch releases on BMM: Spectral Flux and 13 Moons of Neptune. We find again this unique style of esoteric library jazz over these cosmic drum breaks, this time with an electronic twist.

After exploring the majestic Neptune and its 13 moons, revealing one of the best-kept secrets of the cosmic-groove ascending jazz universe, The Natural Yogurt Band continues its mission with Spectral Flux EP. The story does not say it (yet) but we can think that the sound of this new 45 of four intergalactic gates brings incredibly futuristic answers to the mysterious origins of this music that lives in us!
